How we approach rooflight upstands & kerbs in Burnley
Our rooflight upstands & kerbs service in Burnley covers insulated kerbs built and waterproofed to suit your rooflight. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
The North West gets more rain than most of England, so upstand height, membrane detailing and rain sensors on opening units are not optional extras. Think of rooflight upstands & kerbs for roofs where the old kerb is low, cold or leaking.
We work across Lancashire, including Burnley, and in neighbouring towns such as Nelson and Colne. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning, building control and Burnley
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Can I build the upstand myself?
Your builder can, to our drawing. We check it before the rooflight is fitted, because the unit must sit square and level.
What roof coverings do you work with?
Single-ply, EPDM, felt, GRP and liquid-applied systems — or we coordinate with your roofer.
Can an old upstand be reused?
If it is sound, square, insulated and the right size. Often it is cheaper to rebuild than adapt.
Can you work alongside my builder in Burnley?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do you offer rooflight upstands & kerbs in Burnley?
Yes. We carry out rooflight upstands & kerbs in Burnley and across Lancashire. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
