How we approach skylight blinds & solar control in Battersea
We handle skylight blinds & solar control across Greater London, including Battersea. In short: electric blinds, blackout and solar-control upgrades for rooflights. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Party walls are a fact of life in London terraces, and rooflights close to a shared wall need detailing that keeps the neighbour's side dry too. In Battersea, as anywhere, skylight blinds & solar control are the usual choice for bedrooms, nurseries and south-facing kitchens.
From Battersea to Wandsworth, Chelsea and Clapham, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.

Do you need permission in Battersea?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Skylight blinds & solar control in Battersea: questions
Are electric blinds worth it?
For high rooflights you cannot reach, yes. Solar-powered models avoid new wiring.
Will a blind stop a rooflight getting hot?
An internal blind helps with glare but some heat still gets in behind it. Solar-control glass or an external shade does more for heat.
What is an integral blind?
A blind sealed between the panes of the glass unit. It never gets dusty or damaged, but is ordered with the unit.
How do I book a survey in Battersea?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
Will I need planning permission in Battersea?
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line.
