Skylight blinds & solar control in Tonbridge: what is involved?
Thinking about skylight blinds & solar control in Tonbridge? The short answer: electric blinds, blackout and solar-control upgrades for rooflights. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Across the South East, single-storey kitchen extensions on 1930s semis and post-war detached houses are where most flat rooflights and lanterns go. Think of skylight blinds & solar control for bedrooms, nurseries and south-facing kitchens.
From Tonbridge to Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Crowborough, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.

Do you need permission in Tonbridge?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Skylight blinds & solar control in Tonbridge: questions
Can you fit a blind to my existing rooflight?
Usually, yes — if there is enough depth in the reveal for the cassette and rails. We measure first.
What is an integral blind?
A blind sealed between the panes of the glass unit. It never gets dusty or damaged, but is ordered with the unit.
Can I get full blackout?
Blackout fabrics in side channels give near-total darkness.
Will I need planning permission in Tonbridge?
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line.
Can you work alongside my builder in Tonbridge?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
