Skylight replacement in Diss: what is involved?

Our skylight replacement service in Diss covers replacing tired domes and failed glass with a modern rooflight. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.

Coastal towns in the East of England see salty air, so we specify frame finishes and fixings with exposure in mind. In Diss, as anywhere, skylight replacement is the usual choice for yellowed domes, misted glass and leaking roof windows.

Diss is around 31 km from Norwich, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Norfolk, including the IP22 district.

What you can choose

  • Roof window replacement in pitched roofs
  • Fixed to electric opening
  • Misted glass unit replacement only
  • Upstand rebuild and insulation
  • Dome to flat glass upgrade
  • Clearer view and more light
  • Option to add opening and rain sensor

Before you order: points to check

  • Upstand and roof condition decide the scope
  • Enlarging the opening changes the structure and may need approval

Do you need permission in Diss?

English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.

Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions

Can you replace only the misted glass?

Sometimes, if the frame is sound and the maker supplies replacement units. Often a complete new rooflight costs little more and performs better.

Can I go bigger when replacing?

Possibly. Enlarging the opening means trimming joists, so we check the structure first.

Will it mess up my ceiling?

We protect the room and make good the reveal. Minor decoration may be needed afterwards.

Will I need planning permission in Diss?

Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line.

Can you work alongside my builder in Diss?

Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
