Sliding rooflights in Oxford: what is involved?
Sliding rooflights in Oxford means box rooflights whose glass lid slides back for walk-out roof access. We cover the OX1 district and the rest of Oxfordshire, with a survey before any price is fixed.
Larger gardens in much of the South East mean deeper rear extensions, and deeper rooms need light from above rather than only from the doors. Sliding rooflights suit staircases that rise to a roof terrace.
We cover all of Oxford and the OX1 district, and nearby Abingdon and Didcot.

Planning, building control and Oxford
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
Our planning guide covers each nation in more detail.

Questions about sliding rooflights in Oxford
Is a sliding rooflight better than an access hatch?
For daily use, usually yes — you walk out under open sky instead of climbing through a hinged hatch. A hatch costs less and suits occasional access.
Does it need planning permission?
A box unit that projects above the roof plane can need planning permission, especially on the front of a house or in a conservation area. We check before you order.
What if it is raining?
Fitted with a rain sensor, an electric unit closes automatically. Most also have a manual override for power cuts.
Can you work alongside my builder in Oxford?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do you fit sliding rooflights in Oxford?
Yes. We survey and fit sliding rooflights in Oxford and across Oxfordshire. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
