Sliding rooflights in Doncaster: what is involved?
Our sliding rooflights service in Doncaster covers box rooflights whose glass lid slides back for walk-out roof access. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Stone-built terraces are common across Yorkshire, and roof windows in the rear slope are a popular way to light attic rooms. Typical uses for sliding rooflights include staircases that rise to a roof terrace.
We work across South Yorkshire, including Doncaster, and in neighbouring towns such as Bentley and Rotherham. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning and building rules for Doncaster
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Is it lockable?
Yes. Units lock from inside and the drive holds the lid closed.
Does it need planning permission?
A box unit that projects above the roof plane can need planning permission, especially on the front of a house or in a conservation area. We check before you order.
Is a sliding rooflight better than an access hatch?
For daily use, usually yes — you walk out under open sky instead of climbing through a hinged hatch. A hatch costs less and suits occasional access.
Will I need planning permission in Doncaster?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
Can you work alongside my builder in Doncaster?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
