Smoke vent rooflights (AOVs) in Merthyr Tydfil: what is involved?
We handle smoke vent rooflights (AOVs) across Mid Glamorgan, including Merthyr Tydfil. In short: automatic smoke ventilators at the head of stairwells and atria. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Think of smoke vent rooflights (AOVs) for communal stairwells, corridors and atria.
From Merthyr Tydfil to Aberdare, Rhondda and Ebbw Vale, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.

Before you order: points to check
- Whoever holds the building's fire-safety duties (the responsible person, the duty holder in Scotland or the appropriate person in Northern Ireland) must keep systems maintained and tested
- Smoke ventilation is designed to the building's fire strategy — we install to that design
Rules and responsibilities in Merthyr Tydfil
Smoke vents are life-safety equipment: in Wales the responsible person must keep them maintained under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (as it applies in Wales). We install to the building's fire strategy and the manufacturer's certification.
For non-domestic buildings in Wales, Approved Document L sets limiting U-values for rooflights and roof ventilators; we supply the manufacturer's data for the building control submission. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.
