Sun tunnels & tubular skylights for Greenwich: the essentials
Our sun tunnels & tubular skylights service in Greenwich covers light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
London homes often run deep from front to back, so the middle of the ground floor is the darkest space — exactly where an overhead rooflight earns its keep. In Greenwich, as anywhere, sun tunnels & tubular skylights are the usual choice for small internal rooms where a full rooflight will not fit.
From Greenwich to Blackheath, Lewisham and Catford, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Choices for your Greenwich project
- Ventilation adaptor
- Integrated electric light
- Pitched or flat-roof flashings
- Insulated tube sections
- Rigid (brighter) or flexible tubes
- Works on pitched and flat roofs
- Daylight where no window is possible
What to check first
- Light output falls with tube length and bends
- Tube runs need insulation in cold lofts to limit condensation
Do you need permission in Greenwich?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Greenwich: questions
Do sun tunnels need planning permission?
Usually not on a house, provided the dome does not project too far and the property is not listed. Check if you live in a conservation area or a flat.
Can it work at night?
Some models include a light fitting in the diffuser.
Rigid or flexible tube?
Rigid tubes carry much more light. Flexible tubes are easier where the loft is cluttered, but lose light faster.
Is the survey in Greenwich free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Can you work alongside my builder in Greenwich?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
