Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Lincoln: what is involved?

Our sun tunnels & tubular skylights service in Lincoln covers light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.

Industrial and commercial units around Midlands towns often still have their original rooflight sheets, which are due for replacement. Typical uses for sun tunnels & tubular skylights include small internal rooms where a full rooflight will not fit.

Lincoln is the main town we list in Lincolnshire; we also cover nearby Gainsborough and Newark-on-Trent.

Choices for your Lincoln project

  • Insulated tube sections
  • Ventilation adaptor
  • Diffusers in several sizes
  • Rigid (brighter) or flexible tubes
  • Pitched or flat-roof flashings
  • Works on pitched and flat roofs
  • Daylight where no window is possible

Before you order: points to check

  • Light output falls with tube length and bends
  • Gives light, not a view

Planning, building control and Lincoln

In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.

Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. Replacing a rooflight or roof window can be self-certified by an installer registered with an authorised competent person scheme; otherwise building control approval is needed.

See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Lincoln: questions

Can it work at night?

Some models include a light fitting in the diffuser.

How much light does a sun tunnel give?

A good rigid tunnel on a bright day lights a hallway well. Output depends on tube diameter, length and the number of bends.

Rigid or flexible tube?

Rigid tubes carry much more light. Flexible tubes are easier where the loft is cluttered, but lose light faster.

Can you work alongside my builder in Lincoln?

Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.

Will I need planning permission in Lincoln?

English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
