Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Liverpool: what is involved?
For Liverpool homes and buildings we offer sun tunnels & tubular skylights: light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
The North West gets more rain than most of England, so upstand height, membrane detailing and rain sensors on opening units are not optional extras. In Liverpool, as anywhere, sun tunnels & tubular skylights are the usual choice for small internal rooms where a full rooflight will not fit.
Liverpool is the main town we list in Merseyside; we also cover nearby Birkenhead and Wallasey.

Planning, building control and Liverpool
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Common questions
Can it go through a flat roof?
Yes, with a flat-roof flashing and upstand.
Will it get condensation?
Insulating the tube where it passes through a cold loft prevents most condensation.
How much light does a sun tunnel give?
A good rigid tunnel on a bright day lights a hallway well. Output depends on tube diameter, length and the number of bends.
Is the survey in Liverpool free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Will I need planning permission in Liverpool?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
