How we approach sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Ystradgynlais
For Ystradgynlais homes and buildings we offer sun tunnels & tubular skylights: light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Welsh planning rules exclude rooflights from permitted development in conservation areas and National Parks, so we check the designation before quoting. In Ystradgynlais, as anywhere, sun tunnels & tubular skylights are the usual choice for small internal rooms where a full rooflight will not fit.
Ystradgynlais sits about 8 km from Pontardawe and 12 km from Neath, and we cover the whole SA9 postcode district and the roads in between.

Do you need permission in Ystradgynlais?
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.
