Bespoke & shaped rooflights for Derby: the essentials
For Derby homes and buildings we offer bespoke & shaped rooflights: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many Midlands semis have had a single-storey rear extension added, and a larger flat rooflight or lantern is often the change that makes it feel finished. Bespoke & shaped rooflights suit openings that standard sizes do not fit.
Derby is the main town we list in Derbyshire; we also cover nearby Belper and Ilkeston.

Do you need permission in Derby?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.

These are typical supply-and-fit ranges. For an address in Derby, scaffold, a hoist for heavy glass, or a new structural opening can move the figure, which is why we survey first.

Common questions
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Do you need my architect's drawings?
They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.
Can any shape be made?
Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.
How do I book a survey in Derby?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
Will I need planning permission in Derby?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
