Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Plymouth: what is involved?

Thinking about bespoke & shaped rooflights in Plymouth? The short answer: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.

Western coasts take wind-driven rain, so we pay close attention to upstand height and flashing laps on exposed roofs. Bespoke & shaped rooflights suit openings that standard sizes do not fit.

Plymouth is the main town we list in Devon; we also cover nearby Plymstock and Paignton.

Options we can specify in Plymouth

  • Solar-control and low-iron glass
  • Triangular and trapezoid panes
  • Concealed or slim frames
  • Sloped or monopitch rooflights
  • Multi-pane butt-jointed runs
  • Works with architects and builders
  • Glass shaped to the architecture

Things we check at survey

  • Precise survey and template may be needed
  • Large panes need a lifting plan

Planning, building control and Plymouth

Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.

Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Questions about bespoke & shaped rooflights in Plymouth

Why does bespoke take longer?

Each unit is drawn, checked and manufactured to order.

Can any shape be made?

Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.

Do you need my architect's drawings?

They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.

Do you offer bespoke & shaped rooflights in Plymouth?

Yes. We carry out bespoke & shaped rooflights in Plymouth and across Devon. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.

Do I need to be at home for the survey in Plymouth?

Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
