What do bespoke & shaped rooflights in Kirkwall involve?
Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Kirkwall: by arrangement. In short, triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We confirm travel and timing before any survey is booked, then fix the price in writing.
Many Scottish homes have dormers and attic rooms where an extra roof window adds light without a full dormer. Bespoke & shaped rooflights suit angled ceilings, corners and architect-designed extensions.
Kirkwall is in a remote or island area, so surveys and fitting here are by arrangement. Send your postcode and we will tell you honestly whether and when we can help.

Do you need permission in Kirkwall?
Planning rules in Scotland differ: rooflights are treated as external alterations under Class 2B, with no permitted development in conservation areas. Listed buildings need listed building consent where the work affects their character.
Scotland's Technical Handbook (section 6) asks for windows, doors and rooflights in an extension to average 1.4–1.6 W/m²K, with no single unit worse than 3.3 W/m²K. Forming a new opening normally involves structural work, so check with the local authority verifier whether a building warrant is needed.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.
