What do bespoke & shaped rooflights in York involve?
Our bespoke & shaped rooflights service in York covers triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Converted barns and mills in Yorkshire often suit bespoke or ridge rooflights that follow the original structure. In York, as anywhere, bespoke & shaped rooflights are the usual choice for openings that standard sizes do not fit.
York is the main town we list in North Yorkshire; we also cover nearby Selby and Harrogate.

Planning, building control and York
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

These are typical supply-and-fit ranges. For an address in York, scaffold, a hoist for heavy glass, or a new structural opening can move the figure, which is why we survey first.

Common questions
Can bespoke units open?
Some can. Shaped glass is usually fixed, combined with a standard opening unit elsewhere.
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Do you need my architect's drawings?
They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.
Can you work alongside my builder in York?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in York?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
