How we approach dome rooflights in Bracknell
Thinking about dome rooflights in Bracknell? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Larger gardens in much of the South East mean deeper rear extensions, and deeper rooms need light from above rather than only from the doors. Dome rooflights suit schools, flats and commercial flat roofs.
From Bracknell to Crowthorne, Wokingham and Sandhurst, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Specification options
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Suits schools, flats and commercial roofs
- Low cost per unit
What to check first
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
Rules and responsibilities in Bracknell
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

These are typical supply-and-fit ranges. For an address in Bracknell, scaffold, a hoist for heavy glass, or a new structural opening can move the figure, which is why we survey first.

Common questions
Do domes leak?
Leaks are usually at the upstand seal or the membrane. Replacing the dome and resealing often fixes it.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
