What do dome rooflights in Sherborne involve?
We handle dome rooflights across Dorset, including Sherborne. In short: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Barn and chapel conversions in the South West often need bespoke or shaped rooflights to suit the original structure. Typical uses for dome rooflights include schools, flats and commercial flat roofs.
Sherborne sits about 8 km from Yeovil and 26 km from Dorchester, and we cover the whole DT9 postcode district and the roads in between.

Building control and safety duties in Sherborne
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Do domes leak?
Leaks are usually at the upstand seal or the membrane. Replacing the dome and resealing often fixes it.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Sherborne?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Do you fit dome rooflights in Sherborne?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in Sherborne and across Dorset. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
