What do dome rooflights in South Ockendon involve?
For South Ockendon homes and buildings we offer dome rooflights: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Coastal towns in the East of England see salty air, so we specify frame finishes and fixings with exposure in mind. Typical uses for dome rooflights include older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
We work across Essex, including South Ockendon, and in neighbouring towns such as Grays and Hornchurch. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.
Options we can specify in South Ockendon
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Fixed, hinged or vented options
- Smoke-vent versions available
What to check first
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Regulations for dome rooflights in South Ockendon
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Dome rooflights in South Ockendon: questions
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
Do you fit dome rooflights in South Ockendon?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in South Ockendon and across Essex. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
Can you work alongside my builder in South Ockendon?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
