Dome rooflights for Oswestry: the essentials
Thinking about dome rooflights in Oswestry? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Bungalows are common across parts of the Midlands, and sun tunnels or roof windows are a quick way to brighten internal hallways. Dome rooflights suit older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
From Oswestry to Shrewsbury, Whitchurch and Chester, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Choices for your Oswestry project
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Quick replacement on existing upstands
- Light, impact-resistant domes
What to check first
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
Building control and safety duties in Oswestry
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Dome rooflights in Oswestry: questions
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Can you work alongside my builder in Oswestry?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do you fit dome rooflights in Oswestry?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in Oswestry and across Shropshire. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
