Dome rooflights in Whitchurch: what is involved?
For Whitchurch homes and buildings we offer dome rooflights: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Industrial and commercial units around Midlands towns often still have their original rooflight sheets, which are due for replacement. Dome rooflights suit older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
We work across Shropshire, including Whitchurch, and in neighbouring towns such as Market Drayton and Crewe. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.
What you can choose
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Light, impact-resistant domes
- Smoke-vent versions available
What to check first
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Fire classification matters on some roofs
Rules and responsibilities in Whitchurch
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.

Dome rooflights in Whitchurch: questions
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
