Dome rooflights in Leamington Spa: what is involved?
Thinking about dome rooflights in Leamington Spa? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Midlands housing is a mix of Victorian terraces, inter-war semis and newer estates, and rear kitchen extensions with flat rooflights are a common upgrade. Typical uses for dome rooflights include older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
Jobs in Leamington Spa are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.
What you can choose
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Smoke-vent versions available
- Fixed, hinged or vented options
Things we check at survey
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
Rules and responsibilities in Leamington Spa
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Dome rooflights in Leamington Spa: questions
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
