What do dome rooflights in Halifax involve?
Thinking about dome rooflights in Halifax? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Converted barns and mills in Yorkshire often suit bespoke or ridge rooflights that follow the original structure. In Halifax, as anywhere, dome rooflights are the usual choice for older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
From Halifax to Brighouse, Huddersfield and Cleckheaton, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Options we can specify in Halifax
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Low cost per unit
- Suits schools, flats and commercial roofs
Things we check at survey
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
Building control and safety duties in Halifax
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.

Common questions
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
Do domes leak?
Leaks are usually at the upstand seal or the membrane. Replacing the dome and resealing often fixes it.
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Halifax?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Do you fit dome rooflights in Halifax?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in Halifax and across West Yorkshire. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
