How we approach loft conversion skylights in Sale
We handle loft conversion skylights across Greater Manchester, including Sale. In short: roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Exposed hillside towns in the North West need flashing and seal details that cope with wind-driven rain. In Sale, as anywhere, loft conversion skylights are the usual choice for loft conversions and rooms in the roof.
Neighbouring towns include Stretford (3 km) and Urmston (3 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.

Do you need permission in Sale?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. Replacing a rooflight or roof window can be self-certified by an installer registered with an authorised competent person scheme; otherwise building control approval is needed.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Loft conversion skylights in Sale: questions
How many roof windows does a loft room need?
Enough to give good light — a common rule of thumb is glazing equal to roughly a tenth to a fifth of the floor area, adjusted for orientation and use. We advise at survey.
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
Can you work alongside my loft builder?
Yes — we set out and fit the windows to the builder's programme.
Is the survey in Sale free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Sale?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
