Ridge & pitched glass roofs in Salford: what is involved?
For Salford homes and buildings we offer ridge & pitched glass roofs: dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Converted mills and warehouses in the North West often have large rooflights or glass roofs that need specialist replacement. In Salford, as anywhere, ridge & pitched glass roofs are the usual choice for side returns, links and long extensions.
Salford sits about 3 km from Eccles and 4 km from Manchester, and we cover the whole M6 postcode district and the roads in between.

Do you need permission in Salford?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Can it be partly solid?
Yes — part-glazed, part-insulated roofs balance light and heat.
Will it be noisy in the rain?
Glass is quieter than polycarbonate. Triple glazing or laminated glass reduces rain noise further.
Is a glass roof too hot for a kitchen?
Without care, it can be. Solar-control glass, an opening vent at the top and a blind make a south-facing glass roof comfortable.
Can you work alongside my builder in Salford?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Salford?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
