How we approach hinged roof access rooflights in Penarth
For Penarth homes and buildings we offer hinged roof access rooflights: hinged glazed hatches over a stair or ladder for roof terrace access. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Think of hinged roof access rooflights for occasional roof access that also lights the stair.
Jobs in Penarth are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.

Planning, building control and Penarth
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Hinged roof access rooflights in Penarth: questions
Can it be opened from the roof?
Many units have an external handle or key for opening from outside. If you need that, tell us at survey.
Does it let in as much light as a normal rooflight?
Yes — closed, it is a glazed rooflight. The frame is slightly deeper to carry the hinge and seals.
