Roof lanterns in Llangefni: what is involved?
We handle roof lanterns across Gwynedd, including Llangefni. In short: hipped glass lanterns that lift the ceiling of orangeries and extensions. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Many Welsh homes have older single-storey rear extensions where a glass rooflight brightens a dark kitchen. Think of roof lanterns for rooms that need height as well as light.
Llangefni is around 12 km from Bangor, Gwynedd, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Gwynedd, including the LL77 district.

Planning and building rules for Llangefni
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Questions about roof lanterns in Llangefni
Can a lantern go on an existing extension?
Yes, if the flat roof structure can be opened up and trimmed. We check joists and the roof build-up at survey.
Do they leak?
Modern lanterns are sealed systems. Leaks usually trace back to the kerb or roof membrane detail, which we form and check ourselves.
How big can a lantern be?
Aluminium systems go to around three by six metres in standard ranges; larger sizes are made to order.
Will I need planning permission in Llangefni?
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed.
Can you work alongside my builder in Llangefni?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
