Pitched roof windows for Dumfries: the essentials
We handle pitched roof windows across Dumfries and Galloway, including Dumfries. In short: centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Scottish weather is hard on roofs, so we specify rooflights and roof windows with exposure in mind and fit upstands with generous heights. In Dumfries, as anywhere, pitched roof windows are the usual choice for pitched roofs over bedrooms, stairs and bathrooms.
Dumfries is the main town we list in Dumfries and Galloway; we also cover nearby Lockerbie and Annan.

Planning and building rules for Dumfries
In Scotland most rooflights on houses fall under Class 2B permitted development; in a conservation area, or on a listed building, consent is needed. Listed buildings need listed building consent where the work affects their character.
Under the Scottish building standards, replacement rooflights should average 1.6 W/m²K or better, and no individual unit should exceed 3.3 W/m²K. Replacing a rooflight, frame included, does not need a building warrant, but the work must still meet the building standards.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.
