Pitched roof windows in Strood: what is involved?
We handle pitched roof windows across Kent, including Strood. In short: centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Larger gardens in much of the South East mean deeper rear extensions, and deeper rooms need light from above rather than only from the doors. Pitched roof windows suit lofts, attic rooms, landings and vaulted ceilings.
We work across Kent, including Strood, and in neighbouring towns such as Rochester and Chatham. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning, building control and Strood
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. Replacing a rooflight or roof window can be self-certified by an installer registered with an authorised competent person scheme; otherwise building control approval is needed.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Can roof windows be electric?
Yes — electric and solar-powered models open by remote and many include rain sensors.
Do I need planning permission for a roof window?
Often not, under householder permitted development, provided it does not project too far above the roof plane and conditions are met. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas are different. Our planning guide covers each nation.
Can a roof window be fitted from inside?
In most cases, yes — only the tiles around the opening are lifted, and much of the work is done from inside the loft.
Is the survey in Strood free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Do you fit pitched roof windows in Strood?
