Skylight blinds & solar control in Whitehaven: what is involved?
We handle skylight blinds & solar control across Cumbria, including Whitehaven. In short: electric blinds, blackout and solar-control upgrades for rooflights. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Exposed hillside towns in the North West need flashing and seal details that cope with wind-driven rain. Skylight blinds & solar control suit bedrooms, nurseries and south-facing kitchens.
We work across Cumbria, including Whitehaven, and in neighbouring towns such as Workington and Keswick. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Do you need permission in Whitehaven?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

What is an integral blind?
A blind sealed between the panes of the glass unit. It never gets dusty or damaged, but is ordered with the unit.
Is the survey in Whitehaven free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Will I need planning permission in Whitehaven?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
