Skylight blinds & solar control for Tenby: the essentials
For Tenby homes and buildings we offer skylight blinds & solar control: electric blinds, blackout and solar-control upgrades for rooflights. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Wales sees a lot of wind-driven rain, particularly in the west, so upstand height and flashing laps matter more than anywhere. In Tenby, as anywhere, skylight blinds & solar control are the usual choice for bedrooms, nurseries and south-facing kitchens.
We work across Dyfed, including Tenby, and in neighbouring towns such as Pembroke Dock and Haverfordwest. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning, building control and Tenby
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Can you fit a blind to my existing rooflight?
Usually, yes — if there is enough depth in the reveal for the cassette and rails. We measure first.
Do blinds work on roof lanterns?
Lantern blinds exist but are complex; solar-control glass is often the better answer.
What is an integral blind?
A blind sealed between the panes of the glass unit. It never gets dusty or damaged, but is ordered with the unit.

Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
How do I book a survey in Tenby?
