Skylight blinds & solar control in Sale: what is involved?
For Sale homes and buildings we offer skylight blinds & solar control: electric blinds, blackout and solar-control upgrades for rooflights. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Exposed hillside towns in the North West need flashing and seal details that cope with wind-driven rain. Typical uses for skylight blinds & solar control include bedrooms, nurseries and south-facing kitchens.
Sale sits about 3 km from Stretford and 3 km from Urmston, and we cover the whole M33 postcode district and the roads in between.

Consents for skylight blinds & solar control in Sale
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

How the job runs
- Tell us what you have. Send the M33 postcode, a rough size and a couple of photos.
- Survey. We measure the opening, check the roof build-up and agree the options.
- Agree the quote. You approve the specification and price before anything is ordered.
- Fit and make good. We fit, seal, test and finish the reveal, then hand over the paperwork.

Skylight blinds & solar control in Sale: questions
Are electric blinds worth it?
For high rooflights you cannot reach, yes. Solar-powered models avoid new wiring.
Can I get full blackout?
Blackout fabrics in side channels give near-total darkness.
Can you fit a blind to my existing rooflight?
Usually, yes — if there is enough depth in the reveal for the cassette and rails. We measure first.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Sale?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Will I need planning permission in Sale?
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line.
