What do sun tunnels & tubular skylights in London involve?
We handle sun tunnels & tubular skylights across Greater London, including London. In short: light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Many London roofs are reached only through the house or over neighbouring property, so lifting heavy glass is planned at survey rather than on the day. Typical uses for sun tunnels & tubular skylights include windowless hallways, landings and bathrooms.
We cover all of London and the EC1A district, and nearby Pimlico and Islington.

Planning and building rules for London
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in London: questions
Do sun tunnels need planning permission?
Usually not on a house, provided the dome does not project too far and the property is not listed. Check if you live in a conservation area or a flat.
Will it get condensation?
Insulating the tube where it passes through a cold loft prevents most condensation.
Can it go through a flat roof?
Yes, with a flat-roof flashing and upstand.
Can you work alongside my builder in London?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Is the survey in London free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
