Walk-on rooflights for Blyth: the essentials
For Blyth homes and buildings we offer walk-on rooflights: structural glass you can stand on, set flush into terraces and floors. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Stone villages inland in the North East can have conservation areas where low-profile rooflights are preferred. Typical uses for walk-on rooflights include terraces where the light below matters as much as the space above.
We cover all of Blyth and the NE24 district, and nearby Ashington and Cramlington.
Choices for your Blyth project
- Double or triple glazed with a structural top pane
- Heated or self-cleaning glass on some ranges
- Internal floor panels between storeys
- Anti-slip frit or etched top surface
- Fixed or with privacy interlayer
- Flush with paving or decking — no trip edge
- Pairs with a sliding box unit for terrace access
Before you order: points to check
- Drainage around the unit needs planning so water does not pond on the glass
- Structural support and the design load must be confirmed by the manufacturer or an engineer
Planning, building control and Blyth
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Walk-on rooflights in Blyth: questions
Is the glass slippery?
Walk-on glass has an anti-slip finish, usually a ceramic frit or etched pattern. Like any outdoor surface it needs cleaning to stay effective.
Will it sit flush with my paving?
Yes — the unit is set on its own upstand so the glass finishes level with the surrounding paving or decking.
Can you see through it?
Clear glass can be seen through from both sides. A privacy interlayer or patterned frit keeps the light while obscuring the view.
Is the survey in Blyth free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Blyth?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
