What do bespoke & shaped rooflights in Cambridge involve?
Our bespoke & shaped rooflights service in Cambridge covers triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Coastal towns in the East of England see salty air, so we specify frame finishes and fixings with exposure in mind. Think of bespoke & shaped rooflights for openings that standard sizes do not fit.
From Cambridge to St Ives, Newmarket and Ely, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.

Planning and building rules for Cambridge
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.

Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Cambridge: questions
Can bespoke units open?
Some can. Shaped glass is usually fixed, combined with a standard opening unit elsewhere.
Why does bespoke take longer?
Each unit is drawn, checked and manufactured to order.
Can any shape be made?
Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Cambridge?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Can you work alongside my builder in Cambridge?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
