How we approach bespoke & shaped rooflights in Oxford
For Oxford homes and buildings we offer bespoke & shaped rooflights: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Orangery-style extensions with lanterns are popular across the South East, and solar-control glass makes a big difference on south-facing gardens. In Oxford, as anywhere, bespoke & shaped rooflights are the usual choice for angled ceilings, corners and architect-designed extensions.
We cover all of Oxford and the OX1 district, and nearby Abingdon and Didcot.

Do you need permission in Oxford?
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
Our planning guide covers each nation in more detail.

How the job runs
- Send the details. Postcode, rough size and a photo of the roof and room.
- Survey. We measure the opening, check the roof build-up and agree the options.
- Written price. You receive a fixed price listing the unit, the work and the lead time.
- Fit and make good. We fit, seal, test and finish the reveal, then hand over the paperwork.

Questions about bespoke & shaped rooflights in Oxford
Can I cancel a bespoke order?
Made-to-measure goods are excluded from the statutory 14-day cancellation right. As a goodwill gesture you can cancel without charge until we place the order with the manufacturer, and we tell you in writing when that happens.
Can any shape be made?
Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Oxford?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Can you work alongside my builder in Oxford?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
