What does skylight installation in Oxford involve?
For Oxford homes and buildings we offer skylight installation: survey, supply and fit — new openings, extensions and fit-only work. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Across the South East, single-storey kitchen extensions on 1930s semis and post-war detached houses are where most flat rooflights and lanterns go. Typical uses for skylight installation include builders' projects and retrofits into finished roofs.
Oxford is the main town we list in Oxfordshire; we also cover nearby Abingdon and Didcot.

Planning, building control and Oxford
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

What happens next
- Send the details. Postcode, rough size and a photo of the roof and room.
- Survey. We measure the opening, check the roof build-up and agree the options.
- Fixed quote. Product, work and price in writing — nothing is ordered until you agree.
- Fit and make good. We fit, seal, test and finish the reveal, then hand over the paperwork.

Skylight installation in Oxford: questions
Do you work with builders?
Yes — on new extensions we fit to the builder's programme once the upstand or roof is ready.
Do you fit rooflights bought elsewhere?
Yes. We check the product and the opening first, and our workmanship terms cover the fitting rather than the product.
Who handles building control?
We tell you which route applies — building control approval, a building warrant in Scotland, or in England and Wales self-certification by a registered competent person — and supply the product data.
Will I need planning permission in Oxford?
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line.
Is the survey in Oxford free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
