How we approach dome rooflights in Porthcawl
Thinking about dome rooflights in Porthcawl? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Slate roofs, stone cottages and terraced valleys are typical across Wales, and slim rooflights that sit low in the slates suit them best. Typical uses for dome rooflights include older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
From Porthcawl to Bridgend, Port Talbot and Maesteg, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Choices for your Porthcawl project
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Smoke-vent versions available
- Suits schools, flats and commercial roofs
Before you order: points to check
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
Rules and responsibilities in Porthcawl
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For non-domestic buildings in Wales, Approved Document L sets limiting U-values for rooflights and roof ventilators; we supply the manufacturer's data for the building control submission. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.

Common questions
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
Do you fit dome rooflights in Porthcawl?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in Porthcawl and across Mid Glamorgan. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
How do I book a survey in Porthcawl?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
