Dome rooflights in Llantwit Major: what is involved?
We handle dome rooflights across South Glamorgan, including Llantwit Major. In short: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Wales sees a lot of wind-driven rain, particularly in the west, so upstand height and flashing laps matter more than anywhere. In Llantwit Major, as anywhere, dome rooflights are the usual choice for schools, flats and commercial flat roofs.
Jobs in Llantwit Major are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.
Specification options
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Quick replacement on existing upstands
- Low cost per unit
What to check first
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Regulations for dome rooflights in Llantwit Major
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For non-domestic buildings in Wales, Approved Document L sets limiting U-values for rooflights and roof ventilators; we supply the manufacturer's data for the building control submission. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.

Common questions
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
