How we approach dome rooflights in Dudley
Thinking about dome rooflights in Dudley? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Many Midlands semis have had a single-storey rear extension added, and a larger flat rooflight or lantern is often the change that makes it feel finished. In Dudley, as anywhere, dome rooflights are the usual choice for older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
Dudley is around 13 km from Birmingham, and we survey and fit throughout that part of the West Midlands, including the DY1 district.
Choices for your Dudley project
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Fixed, hinged or vented options
- Smoke-vent versions available
What to check first
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
- Fire classification matters on some roofs
Building control and safety duties in Dudley
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Questions about dome rooflights in Dudley
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Do you fit dome rooflights in Dudley?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in Dudley and across the West Midlands. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
Can you work alongside my builder in Dudley?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
