Loft conversion skylights in Monmouth: what is involved?
For Monmouth homes and buildings we offer loft conversion skylights: roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Typical uses for loft conversion skylights include loft conversions and rooms in the roof.
Monmouth is around 32 km from Newport, Gwent, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Gwent, including the NP25 district.

Do you need permission in Monmouth?
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Loft conversion skylights in Monmouth: questions
Can you work alongside my loft builder?
Yes — we set out and fit the windows to the builder's programme.
How many roof windows does a loft room need?
Enough to give good light — a common rule of thumb is glazing equal to roughly a tenth to a fifth of the floor area, adjusted for orientation and use. We advise at survey.
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
Will I need planning permission in Monmouth?
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed.
Is the survey in Monmouth free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
