How we approach hinged roof access rooflights in Ystradgynlais
Thinking about hinged roof access rooflights in Ystradgynlais? The short answer: hinged glazed hatches over a stair or ladder for roof terrace access. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Wales sees a lot of wind-driven rain, particularly in the west, so upstand height and flashing laps matter more than anywhere. Typical uses for hinged roof access rooflights include occasional roof access that also lights the stair.
Neighbouring towns include Pontardawe (8 km) and Neath (12 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.

Planning, building control and Ystradgynlais
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Questions about hinged roof access rooflights in Ystradgynlais
Can it be opened from the roof?
Many units have an external handle or key for opening from outside. If you need that, tell us at survey.
Is it secure?
Units lock from inside. As with any rooftop door, keep it locked when the house is empty.
How big does an access hatch need to be?
Big enough to climb through comfortably for the stair or ladder you have. For a stair, we size it to the stair width and the headroom; for occasional plant access a smaller hatch can work.
