Roof lanterns in Caerphilly: what is involved?
Our roof lanterns service in Caerphilly covers hipped glass lanterns that lift the ceiling of orangeries and extensions. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Slate roofs, stone cottages and terraced valleys are typical across Wales, and slim rooflights that sit low in the slates suit them best. In Caerphilly, as anywhere, roof lanterns are the usual choice for rooms that need height as well as light.
We work across Gwent, including Caerphilly, and in neighbouring towns such as Risca and Pontypridd. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning and building rules for Caerphilly
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Roof lanterns in Caerphilly: questions
Do roof lanterns get hot?
They can in summer if clear glass is used on a south-facing roof. Solar-control glass and an opening vent make a big difference.
Roof lantern or flat rooflight?
A lantern adds height and sky from all sides; a flat rooflight is lower-profile and cleaner from outside. Our guide compares them in detail.
Aluminium or uPVC?
Aluminium gives slimmer bars and a longer life; uPVC costs less. We fit both.
Will I need planning permission in Caerphilly?
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites.
Do you fit roof lanterns in Caerphilly?
Yes. We survey and fit roof lanterns in Caerphilly and across Gwent. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
