Pitched roof windows in Notting Hill: what is involved?
We handle pitched roof windows across Greater London, including Notting Hill. In short: centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Party walls are a fact of life in London terraces, and rooflights close to a shared wall need detailing that keeps the neighbour's side dry too. In Notting Hill, as anywhere, pitched roof windows are the usual choice for pitched roofs over bedrooms, stairs and bathrooms.
We work across Greater London, including Notting Hill, and in neighbouring towns such as Shepherds Bush and Kensington. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Do you need permission in Notting Hill?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. Replacing a rooflight or roof window can be self-certified by an installer registered with an authorised competent person scheme; otherwise building control approval is needed.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Pitched roof windows in Notting Hill: questions
Will it need building regulations approval?
Fitting a new roof window usually involves cutting rafters and changing the thermal envelope, so building control approval (or, in England and Wales, a competent-person route) is normally needed. We tell you which applies.
Can roof windows be electric?
Yes — electric and solar-powered models open by remote and many include rain sensors.
Do I need planning permission for a roof window?
Often not, under householder permitted development, provided it does not project too far above the roof plane and conditions are met. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas are different. Our planning guide covers each nation.
Is the survey in Notting Hill free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Can you work alongside my builder in Notting Hill?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
