What are pitched roof windows?
Pitched roof windows in Gwent means centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. Every quote follows a survey of the roof and the room below.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Welsh planning rules exclude rooflights from permitted development in conservation areas and National Parks, so we check the designation before quoting.

Planning and building rules in Wales
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
In Wales the limiting values are 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight and 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window in an existing house. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.

How the job runs
- Tell us about the roof. Send the postcode, rough sizes and a photo or two through the form, WhatsApp or the guide-price tool.
- Free survey. For new installations a surveyor measures the opening, checks the roof build-up and talks through glass and options.
- Fixed written quote. You get the product, the work and the price in writing. Nothing is ordered or paid for until you agree.
- Fitting and handover. We fit, seal and make good, then hand over product data, warranties and any certificate paperwork.

Common questions
Can roof windows be electric?
Yes — electric and solar-powered models open by remote and many include rain sensors.
Can you replace an old roof window?
Yes — replacement into the same opening is usually quicker than a new install, often a few hours per window.
Do I need planning permission for a roof window?
Often not, under householder permitted development, provided it does not project too far above the roof plane and conditions are met. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas are different. Our planning guide covers each nation.
Centre-pivot or top-hung?
Centre-pivot windows are easy to clean and suit most rooms. Top-hung windows open out from the top for an unobstructed view and suit lower roof pitches near eye level.
Do you fit pitched roof windows across Gwent?
Yes. We survey and fit pitched roof windows across Gwent, including Newport, Gwent, Cwmbran, Pontypool.
