How we approach pitched roof windows in Newport, Gwent
Thinking about pitched roof windows in Newport, Gwent? The short answer: centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Slate roofs, stone cottages and terraced valleys are typical across Wales, and slim rooflights that sit low in the slates suit them best. Think of pitched roof windows for lofts, attic rooms, landings and vaulted ceilings.

Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.

Pitched roof windows in Newport, Gwent: questions
Do I need planning permission for a roof window?
Often not, under householder permitted development, provided it does not project too far above the roof plane and conditions are met. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas are different. Our planning guide covers each nation.
Will it need building regulations approval?
Fitting a new roof window usually involves cutting rafters and changing the thermal envelope, so building control approval (or, in England and Wales, a competent-person route) is normally needed. We tell you which applies.
Can a roof window be fitted from inside?
In most cases, yes — only the tiles around the opening are lifted, and much of the work is done from inside the loft.
Can you work alongside my builder in Newport, Gwent?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do you fit pitched roof windows in Newport, Gwent?
Yes. We survey and fit pitched roof windows in Newport, Gwent and across Gwent. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
