How we approach hinged roof access rooflights in Newport, Gwent
Our hinged roof access rooflights service in Newport, Gwent covers hinged glazed hatches over a stair or ladder for roof terrace access. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Wales sees a lot of wind-driven rain, particularly in the west, so upstand height and flashing laps matter more than anywhere. Think of hinged roof access rooflights for occasional roof access that also lights the stair.
We cover all of Newport, Gwent and the NP10 district, and nearby Risca and Cwmbran.

Do you need permission in Newport, Gwent?
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.

Gas-strut hatches are simple and reliable. Electric hatches suit heavier lids, wider openings and anyone who would struggle to push a lid up.

Yes — closed, it is a glazed rooflight. The frame is slightly deeper to carry the hinge and seals.
Is the survey in Newport, Gwent free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
How do I book a survey in Newport, Gwent?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
