How we approach hinged roof access rooflights in Risca
Thinking about hinged roof access rooflights in Risca? The short answer: hinged glazed hatches over a stair or ladder for roof terrace access. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Wales sees a lot of wind-driven rain, particularly in the west, so upstand height and flashing laps matter more than anywhere. Think of hinged roof access rooflights for reaching a roof terrace, plant area or flat roof from a stair or ladder.

Planning and building rules for Risca
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.

Hinged roof access rooflights in Risca: questions
Can it be opened from the roof?
Many units have an external handle or key for opening from outside. If you need that, tell us at survey.
How big does an access hatch need to be?
Big enough to climb through comfortably for the stair or ladder you have. For a stair, we size it to the stair width and the headroom; for occasional plant access a smaller hatch can work.
Can it replace an old loft hatch?
Where there is a flat roof above, yes. On a pitched roof, an access roof window is the equivalent.
Do you fit hinged roof access rooflights in Risca?
Yes. We survey and fit hinged roof access rooflights in Risca and across Gwent. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
Can you work alongside my builder in Risca?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
