Pitched roof windows for Cardiff: the essentials
Pitched roof windows in Cardiff means centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. We cover the CF10 district and the rest of South Glamorgan, with a survey before any price is fixed.
Slate roofs, stone cottages and terraced valleys are typical across Wales, and slim rooflights that sit low in the slates suit them best. Pitched roof windows suit lofts, attic rooms, landings and vaulted ceilings.
Cardiff is the main town we list in South Glamorgan; we also cover nearby Penarth and Dinas Powys.

Consents for pitched roof windows in Cardiff
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.

Pitched roof windows in Cardiff: questions
Centre-pivot or top-hung?
Centre-pivot windows are easy to clean and suit most rooms. Top-hung windows open out from the top for an unobstructed view and suit lower roof pitches near eye level.
Will it need building regulations approval?
Fitting a new roof window usually involves cutting rafters and changing the thermal envelope, so building control approval (or, in England and Wales, a competent-person route) is normally needed. We tell you which applies.
Can you replace an old roof window?
Yes — replacement into the same opening is usually quicker than a new install, often a few hours per window.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Cardiff?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Do you fit pitched roof windows in Cardiff?
Yes. We survey and fit pitched roof windows in Cardiff and across South Glamorgan. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
