How we approach pitched roof windows in Doncaster
We handle pitched roof windows across South Yorkshire, including Doncaster. In short: centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Exposed Pennine and coastal towns in Yorkshire need upstand and flashing details built for wind-driven rain. Typical uses for pitched roof windows include lofts, attic rooms, landings and vaulted ceilings.
Jobs in Doncaster are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.

Planning, building control and Doncaster
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Do I need planning permission for a roof window?
Often not, under householder permitted development, provided it does not project too far above the roof plane and conditions are met. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas are different. Our planning guide covers each nation.
Centre-pivot or top-hung?
Centre-pivot windows are easy to clean and suit most rooms. Top-hung windows open out from the top for an unobstructed view and suit lower roof pitches near eye level.
Can you replace an old roof window?
Yes — replacement into the same opening is usually quicker than a new install, often a few hours per window.
Can you work alongside my builder in Doncaster?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Doncaster?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
