Skylight replacement for Machynlleth: the essentials
Skylight replacement in Machynlleth means replacing tired domes and failed glass with a modern rooflight. We cover the SY20 district and the rest of Powys, with a survey before any price is fixed.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Skylight replacement suits yellowed domes, misted glass and leaking roof windows.
Jobs in Machynlleth are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.

Planning, building control and Machynlleth
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
In Wales the limiting values are 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight and 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window in an existing house. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.
